The Center for Sports Administration at Ohio University
The Center for Sports Administration (CSA) carries forward Ohio University’s pioneering tradition in sports management education through its role as a resource center for the world of sports. Headed by OU alumnus, James Kahler, the CSA links faculty, students and alumni to sports-related organizations and businesses, emphasizing research and harnessing knowledge to benefit the industry.
The Center’s mission is to:
- Establish and maintain relationships with sports-related organizations and businesses while developing programs that focus university resources on advancing the field of sports administration. The Center will conduct research supporting sports organizations, organize conferences to exchange that knowledge, and assist emerging sports organizations, particularly those in the developing world.
- Connect academic programs and institutions in the field of sports administration. The CSA will pool academic resources in business, recreation, education, retail, and communications, as well as administrative units such as athletics and campus recreation.
- Support the academic mission of the College of Business by establishing industry mentorships, conducting sponsored research, and developing other professional development opportunities. The CSA’s industry partners will also provide financial support such graduate fellowships and internships.
Ohio University has been the leader in preparing students for careers in the sport industry since 1966, when it founded the first graduate sports administration program. The program has more than 1, 200 alumni, with 80 percent of the alumni currently employed in the sport and entertainment industries.
As the industry continue to advance, the Ohio University Sports Administration Program remains at the forefront, recruiting talent that will make a positive change in the world of sports. The Center plays an integral role in fostering, enhancing and developing, emerging leaders in the industry, as well as serving as an essential resource for today’s leaders.
